CAADP Journalists Networks debuts

Determined to involve the African media in the dissemination of agricultural information in this era of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the trio of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU have joined forces with the NEPAD as debuts the CAADP Journalists Networks, with Brenda Zulu as the coordinator.

This was the outcome on CAADP recent meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, attended by the stakeholders including participants from UNITAR, FAO, and CTA as well as NEPAD among media practitioners with specific interest in coverage and reporting on agricultural developments.

Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development (CAADP) is about bringing together diverse key players - at the continental, regional and national levels - to improve co-ordination, share knowledge, successes and failures, to encourage one another, and to promote joint and separate efforts to achieve the CAADP goals.

It's aims is to help African countries reach a higher path of economic growth through agriculture-led development. While it’s vision is for NEPAD to use this initiative to address policy and capacity issues across the entire agricultural sector and African continent.

NaijaAgroNet gathered that CAADP is entirely African-led and African-owned and represents African leaders' collective vision for agriculture in Africa. Adding that this ambitious and comprehensive vision for agricultural reform in Africa, aims at an average annual growth rate of 6 per cent in agriculture by 2015.
