CTA seeks on-site reporters for Barbados Agri-Food forum

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) is seeking on-site reporters to participate at the four-day Caribbean and Pacific Agri-Food (CPAF) Forum in Bridgetown, Barbados, reports NaijaAgroNet.

The forum slated to hold between November 2 and 6, 2015 is being organized in collaboration with CPAF.

According to the Junior Programme Associate on Information Communication Technology for Agriculture (ICT4Ag) at CTA, Ms Nawsheen Hosenally, disclosed to NaijaAgroNet that the purpose of this forum is to bring together diverse actors from the Caribbean and Pacific, who are part of the agri-food system, to engage in collective actions that could contribute to the transformative efforts of agriculture and the rural milieu.

And in order to raise awareness on the event, engage on-site participants and reach out to a wider audience remotely, she said, CTA would like to support the participation of some young social reporters for the online coverage of the event.

“The on-site reporters will be from the ‪Caribbean region and up to 3 (three) social reporters might be selected for a short consultancy,” she said, noting that anyone from any region or country could apply to be in the online team.

e-agriculture prize goes to CTA @ WSIS’13

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) has emerged top in the e-agriculture category of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Projects Prize 2013, which held in Geneva at the weekend.

Official of ICT4D Programme unit at Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA), Ms Maureen Agena, disclosed this to NaijaAgroNet, describing it as a great news from Geneva, for the global agric community.

She said that the CTA's Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunities, has been announced as winner of WSIS Project Prizes 2013 contest in the category C7 on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Applications: e-Agriculture.

“Congratulations to our colleagues Giacomo Rambaldi and Ken Lohento for their outstanding work on this initiative!” she declared, appreciating all those who have been part of this initiative, and to those who voted for the project in the context of the WSIS prizes.

NaijaAgroNet recalls that WSIS Project Prize was established in 2011 to evaluate and reward stakeholders for the success of their efforts in implementing development-oriented strategies that leverage the power of information and communication technologies.

The WSIS Project Prizes initiative is now an integral part of the WSIS Stocktaking Process established in 2004.

The contest of WSIS Project Prizes is open to all stakeholders: governments, private sector, civil society, international organizations, academia and others, which comprises 18 categories that are directly linked to the WSIS Action Lines outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action.

CTA mets FAO on e-agriculture

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) has finalized plans to meet with the Food and Agri-culture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) over e-agriculture.

ICT4D Programme Coordinator at CTA, Mr. Ken Lohento, confirmed this to NaijaAgroNet, saying that the essence billed as prelude for forthcoming World Summit on the Information Society WSIS Forum 2013 in Geneva, would include to investigate the state of national and regional strategies for e-agriculture strategies, and their impact on how the entire sector can tap into the full benefits of ICT. 

“The outcomes of these actions will serve as the starting point for the e-agriculture action line session at WSIS Forum 2013,” Lohento said.

He also said that for those not attending WSIS, they could join remotely and would be able to ask questions and make comments.

NaijaAgroNet gathered that the session would be moderated by Mr. Michael Riggs of FAO, while panelists includes Ms Jennifer Britton, Caribbean Community (CARICOM ) Secretariat, Guyana; Mr Edward Addo-Dankwa, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana; Mr Ken Lohento, Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA); Mr Harsha Liyanage, Sarvodaya-Fusion and eNovation4D, Sri Lanka and Mr Shahid Uddin Akbar, Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID).
