Group charges FG on farm settlement to encourage youths

Chairman of Farmers Management Association of Nigeria, Mr. Sunday Mancha, has called on the Federal Government to establish farm settlement to encourage youth’s participation in farming, reports Punch.

He said this at the end of a workshop for young farmers in Plateau State as the agricultural future of the nation lies in the hands of youths.

The federal government was also advised to set-up farm settlement where young people could be trained; saying that this would reduce the rate of unemployment in the country. He cited an instance with the huge number of unemployed youths roaming the streets in search of office jobs when there are lands waiting to be explored for farming.

He said the farm settlement would be of advantage to the nation as the association could only produce two million tons of foods rather than the five million tons needed to feed the nation, and with youths coming into agriculture, it would boost production. Read more
