The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, through its Gender Unit in the Special Duties Department and the National Gender Steering Committee, has concluded plans to host a virtual consultative forum on Monday, September 30, 2025, reports NaijaAgroNet.
The session, scheduled to hold via Zoom, will review the National Gender Policy in Agriculture and its accompanying Strategic Plan of Action (2025–2030).
According to the organisers, the forum will bring together stakeholders who earlier participated in a nationwide survey on the policy in order to ensure broad-based input in shaping its next phase.
The consultative forum is expected to refine the policy framework by assessing existing provisions, identifying gaps, and charting practical improvements.
NaijaAgroNet gathered that it also aims to advance inclusive decision-making by guaranteeing that the voices of women farmers, rural communities and other critical actors are heard and integrated.
In addition, the platform will promote collaboration and strengthen partnerships among government, private sector and civil society towards addressing agricultural challenges.
NaijaAgroNet recalls that the National Gender Policy in Agriculture was established to address the peculiar needs of women farmers, who constitute a large percentage of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce.
The policy remains central to driving gender equity, empowerment and productivity across the agricultural value chain.
Organisers through the National Consultant, Barr. Nkiruka Stella Okonkwo, further noted that the outcome of the forum is expected to provide actionable insights and recommendations that will guide the revision of the gender policy.
Industry observers noted that the revised framework will support a more inclusive, sustainable and impactful roadmap for agricultural development and food security in Nigeria.
