Signalling a bold new chapter in Africa’s energy transformation, the Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited (Renaissance) has unveiled its pan-African operational strategy at the just-concluded Africa Energy Week (AEW), positioning itself as a leading catalyst for sustainable industrialisation and regional integration across the continent, reports NaijaAgroNet.
Speaking during a special session at the conference, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Attah, described Renaissance as more than a company, “a transformational force for Africa’s energy rebirth.”
“We are Renaissance, not just in name but in purpose,” Attah declared. “Our ambition is to catalyse a new beginning for Africa, one that delivers energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices.”
Formerly known as The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Renaissance is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Renaissance Africa Energy Holding Company and the operator of the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture, managing 18 oil mining leases in Nigeria’s Niger Delta.
Attah hailed the acquisition of Shell’s stake in the former SPDC as a bold and strategic leap, marking a shift in ownership, vision, and ambition.
“Acquiring SPDC was ambitious, but we executed it with clarity and conviction. Today, Renaissance stands as the new face of Africa’s energy future,” he said.
On his part, the company’s Chairman, Dr. Layi Fatona, described Renaissance’s outlook as distinctly Afrocentric, driven by a vision to make Africa not just a participant but a pacesetter in the global energy landscape.
“Our mission is to be Africa’s leading energy company, one that secures energy independence and industrial growth in a sustainable way,” Dr. Fatona noted. “We are here to shape Africa’s energy future, not merely to observe it. Our journey begins in Nigeria but is designed to expand across the continent.”
During the Africa Energy Week, held from September 29 to October 3, 2025, Renaissance executives featured prominently in strategic sessions. Attah hosted a fireside chat to strengthen brand visibility, while Dr. Fatona joined a high-level panel on Frontier Plays Within Africa’s Mature Basins, emphasizing the potential of legacy assets in the continent’s energy transition.
With its new strategy, Renaissance is poised to champion sustainable energy development, innovation, and collaboration, aligning Africa’s vast resources with its economic ambitions.
“Renaissance is more than an energy company, it is a movement for Africa’s sustainable prosperity,” Attah concluded.
