For the total well-being of community dwellers in accessing adequate healthcare facilities is a joint responsibility for all stakeholders, the State Tuberculosis Coordinator and ATM Lead, Ifelunwa Aipoh, acknowledged the challenges of inadequate consumables facing local health centers, particularly at the Igbo-Olomu Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), during a recent advocacy visit to the paramount ruler of Igbo-Olomu, reports NaijaAgroNet.Also speaking, Patrick Akpan, coordinator of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), and Bunmi Tejumola, representing the Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), expressed appreciation to the traditional ruler for his support and urged him to sustain his commitment to initiatives promoting the health and well-being of his subjects.
Adding to this, State Program Officer (SPO) Taiwo Adakan lauded the monarch’s leadership, particularly highlighting his role in facilitating the rehabilitation of the vital bridge linking Ori-Okuta and Igbo-Olomu, which has significantly improved accessibility and eased movement for residents and healthcare workers.
However, Adakan pointed out major challenges crippling the facility, notably an acute shortage of essential consumables and inadequate healthcare personnel. He noted that the personnel shortage has been escalated to the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and appealed to the royal father to amplify these concerns to relevant authorities to improve health services in Igbo-Olomu.
In his response, the Oloja Ogegbo of Igbo-Olomu Kingdom, Chief Ganiyu Ogegbo, promised to assist with some consumables and engage the Medical Officer of Health regarding the recruitment of more health personnel for the PHC.
The traditional ruler assured the team of his full support in reaching out to well-meaning individuals within the community to facilitate the upgrade of the health centre.
