The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development shall on Wednesday July 14th, 2021, host Ekiti citizens to a 2-day stakeholders’ session on gender mainstreaming in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, reports NaijaAgroNet.
A press statement by Ms. Victoria Ose Ikearu-Udoh, Programme Coordinator, Centre LSD made available to NaijaAgroNet, said the meeting is one of the initial activities under its BUILD grant which has become crucial to identify critical stakeholders for engagement as the roles stakeholders play in determining the success or failure of any project intervention cannot be overemphasized. 

According to her, the meeting, which is the third lap of stakeholder’s interface meeting on Mainstreaming Gender in the Extractive sector, besides the first two meetings held in Ebonyi and Taraba State, will have participants from mining host communities, women in mining, the commissioner of environment, commissioner of mines and steel, SDGs state focal person, other government officials, traditional Rulers of mining host communities, civil society organizations, and media practitioners in attendance.

At the Taraba State meeting, a private mining firm committed to employing fifteen women to joining their workforce, with others undertaking to stepping-down the learnings from the meetings to their household and communities.

The statement concluded that the interface meeting apart from serving as a platform to stimulate discussions amongst stakeholders, will also mark the commencement of the interrogation of systems, structures and practices that may have put women, girls and people living with disabilities in disadvantages in the extractive sector in the State, and deliberately begin the process of mainstreaming gender into the extractive sector to ensure no one is left behind in the State.

The statement enjoined the public particularly citizens of Ekiti state to join this meeting, using any of the Centre’s social media handles @facebook, @centrels.
