ActionAid to host national NSAs on dissemination strategies for 3rd CAADP BR report - NaijaAgroNet

The ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with stakeholders is set to host the Non-State Actors (NSA) to a two-day review session on adequate dissemination of the third CAADP Biennial Review (BR), reports NaijaAgroNet.

Sources close to ActionAid office in Nigeria revealed the advanced plans to host a two-day national session for the dissemination workshop slated to hold between May 18 and 19 at Hawthorn Suites, Garki, Abuja.

NaijaAgroNet noted that African Governments had adopted the 2014 Malabo Declaration which constitutes a recommitment to the CAADP principles and goals adopted earlier in 2003 through the Maputo Declaration.

Noteworthy, NaijaAgroNet recalls that the Malabo Declaration reasserts a strong commitment to reaching CAADP’s goals by identifying specific goals and targets to be achieved within a period of ten years.

These include enhancing investment finance in agriculture, poverty reduction, ending hunger, tripling intra-Africa trade in agricultural goods and services, and enhancing resilience of livelihoods and production systems, in order to ensure that agriculture contributes significantly to poverty reduction.

Within CAADP implementation, Country Director, ActionAid Nigeria, Ene Obi had pointed that its anticipated that national investments into policy practices will deepen national ownership of the agriculture and food policy agenda, thus yielding greater political and budgetary commitments for accelerated and more effective and efficient delivery of results and impact. It is in this context that the CAADP Biennial Review (BR) process was established by the Africa Union Commission Biennial Review serves as an instrument for assessing and reporting the performance of the sector based on agreed targets and indicators in an evidence and inclusive manner towards achieving the commitment of ensuring mutual accountability to Actions and Results.

In addition, NaijaAgroNet gathered that the 3rd BR report was adopted by the Africa Heads of States at the February 2022 AU Summit and launched continentally by the Africa Union Commission in March 2022.

The objectives of the meeting NaijaAgroNet further gathered would involve into dissemination of the report on Nigeria’s performance in the 3rd BR Process to stakeholders; identify successes as well as shortcomings around the 3rd BR processes to better prepare and improve engagement with the process of the 4th BR cycle; provide information and capacity for CSOs, Smallholder Women Farmers and media networks to better engage the post 3rd BR process and emerging policy issues.
