The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) in partnership with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have boosted the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the siting of milk production factory in Giri Community of the Gwagwalada Area Council, reports NaijaAgroNet.
This followed the formal performing of the ground breaking of the factory on Friday, September 23, this year.
NaijaAgroNet gathered that the factory is expected for completion in 24 months which is by end of 2025.
Speaking during the performance of the ground breaking, the Director of Agriculture, ECOWAS, Dr. Alan Sy-Traore, gave applause to NANTS for steadfastness to the expectations of its partnership project with the Commission.
The factory, Traore said, was in line with the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy on Livestock Value Chain, and reassured of the Commission’s collaboration with NANTS on trade and economic projects to enhance national economic development in Nigeria and other ECOWAS states.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Commercial Ruminant and Diary Production, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ibilade Akeem commended NANTS for taking this giant step and gave assurances of the Ministry’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with NANTS on meat and milk production.
This setting up of this factory, Akeem pointed out, is in line with food security programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria and expressed optimism on the benefits to the populace.

Earlier in his welcome address, the excited National President, NANTS, Dr. Ken Ukaoha, explained that the factory is a partnership project with ECOWAS.
He disclosed that the anticipated completion date is 24 months.
"We are hopeful of a befitting facility in the next 24 months duration of the project," he asserted.
"The factory has security house, showroom for milk and dairy products, training center, folder demo plot, lairage, cattle milking shade, milking equipment store house, 2 offices, cold room, power house, water facility, toilet and shower facilities, etc," Ukaoha disclosed.
The factory, Ukaoha said, will ensure the production of hygienic milk towards enhancing food security and national economic development, as well as serve as a training ground for the students of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Abuja and other relevant institutions within and around the FCT as well as ensure job creation and youth empowerment.
The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abu Giri who was represented by Mr Yohanna Ishaya of Agriculture Department in a goodwill message, applauded the project while describing it as a "welcomed development in the area."
The traditional ruler of the community and Aguma of Giri, Alhaji Musa Wakili, expressed joy on the choice of his community and singled out NANTS and partners for commendation.
