The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) into the country’s everyday immunization agenda, reports NaijaAgroNet.
In
order to achieve the goal of being the next nation free from the polio virus,
Nigeria now hit one of the four major plans to eradicate polio which is to
replace oral polio vaccine (OPV) with the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)
Minister
of Health, Dr. Alhassan Khaliru in a statement made available to NaijaAgroNet, said the efforts will provide Nigeria with the chance to
completely eradicate the polio virus he said “These provide a quantum-leap
opportunity for Nigeria in the polio eradication end game strategy,” said Dr.Khaliru.
NaijaAgroNet recalls
that World Health Organization (WHO)
commended Nigeria, pointeing out their position in the fight against the polio
virus with records, saying “Nigeria remains one of the three countries with
endemic polio transmission.”
