Nigeria has secured a prominent seat at the helm of global agricultural governance as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, emerged as the Chairperson of the 49th Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, reports NaijaAgroNet.

This historic appointment, occurring during the Council's session on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, marks the first time in six years that Nigeria has led the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations’ specialized agency.
