UNEP beckons on African Young Environmentalists

The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) is beckoning on Young Environmental Journalist with an award which entry closes December 16, 2011.

UNEP said the entry is open to young African journalist between the ages of 21 and 35 years, based on the continent and working for local, regional or international media organizations.

Applicants are expects to submit one radio, television, print or online report in English or French on an environmental issue.

Bryan Coll of UNEP News desk confirmed this to NaijaAgroNet, saying that articles to be submitted must not exceed 3,000 words while radio or television report must not be longer than six minutes and must have been published or broadcast between January 1, and December 2011.

Coll also disclosed that applications could be made online at www.unep.org/yeja, while funding support for the award is been made available by the United States’ government.

The winner, Coll noted, would get an all-expenses-paid study visit to the USA, where the winner will follow a specially designed “green itinerary” by interacting with leading environmental projects, green economy projects, scientists and public figures.

NEPAD to celebrate 10-yr with essay, photo contest

Talented Africans have been invited to take part in the essay and photo contest in commemoration of the 10 years of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency.

A press statement made available to Naija AgroNet, Thursday indicated that (NEPAD) Agency in collaboration with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) have joined hands in celebrating NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary.

“It is within this context of reflecting over the advancement of the African development agenda, that the two institutions are jointly organising photo and essay competitions,” part of the press statement read.

Also, it stated that the essay competition is themed “Looking at ICTs and entrepreneurship in agriculture and rural development through the eyes of women and the youth” and “Looking at ICTs, agriculture, entrepreneurship and climate change in Africa through the eyes of women and the youth” for the photo competition.

This contest, Naija AgroNet gathered falls in the framework of CTA activities on Youth, Women and ICTs.

Also, in line with these objectives, CTA and NEPAD Agency are searching for enthusiastic Africans, who want to demonstrate their abilities by examining these issues. Give it a trial.
