The journey to the successes recorded by CS-SUNN in the last three years under the Partnership for Improving the Nigeria Nutrition System (PINNS) project ended in September 2021, at the PINNS close-out/end of project dissemination meeting held recently in Abuja.

CS-SUNN brought together nutrition stakeholders spanning across civil society, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the National and State levels, Development partners, Donors and the Media to disseminate the PINNS project successes, achievements, lessons learnt and also share next steps of the project with stakeholders in order to get their buy in.

At the meeting, Chairman Board of Trustees CS-SUNN, Dr. Bamidele Omotola told stakeholders that “over the years, on annual basis, the program has helped the states to be able to track and follow funds meant for nutritional purpose while also making it part of the budget process”. He noted other achievements recorded during the life span of the project to include improvement in the policy environment (national nutrition policy was domesticated), while also developing multi-sectoral plans.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled the 2021 Greater Lagos Fiesta noting that the monthlong event will help the state's recovery efforts after the devastations of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Governor stated this on Friday at the unveiling ceremony of the Fiesta themed 'Lagos Rocks'. It will feature activities including cycling, photography and fashion competitions, the Xmas Souk Village, traditional games, and the popular Greater Lagos Concerts featuring A-list artistes in all five divisions of the state.

The Directors-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have signed an agreement to reinforce their cooperation, to promote employment and decent jobs for women and men in an energy transition that leaves no one behind.

“The rapid deployment of renewable energy is indispensable to the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals. Making such a transition conducive to decent work creation, with more and better jobs, while ensuring a just transition for all is essential,” said ILO Director-General Guy Ryder. “Working together, the ILO and IRENA can further promote decent work and social justice in the energy transition, in a comprehensive manner.”

The renewable energy employment worldwide reached 12 million last year, up from 11.5 million in 2019, according to the eighth edition of Renewable Energy and Jobs: Annual Review 2021. The report was released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) at a high-level opening of IRENA’s Collaborative Framework on Just and Inclusive Transitions, co-facilitated by the United States and South Africa.

The report confirms that COVID-19 caused delays and supply chain disruptions, with impacts on jobs varying by country and end use, and among segments of the value chain. While solar and wind jobs continued leading global employment growth in the renewable energy sector, accounting for a total of 4 million and 1.25 million jobs respectively, liquid biofuels employment decreased as demand for transport fuels fell. Off-grid solar lighting sales suffered, but companies were able to limit job losses.
