
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Department for International Development (DFID) in the United Kingdom (UK), have jointly launched 12 new projects aimed at addressing agriculture and food security in developing countries, TopNews reports.
Speaking at the occasion, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development and Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, UK, Gareth Thomas expressed UK's support for the initiative.
Also, Thomas said that investing in science and research is essential to provide farmers with seeds, knowledge and tools to make a better life for themselves, thereby revolutionizing farming and reducing poverty in developing countries.
Just as Lan Pearson, the UK Minister for Science and Innovations, said that it is a true demonstration of how scientific research could give solutions to the major challenges facing the world and improve quality of life for people in developing countries. Read more
