Nigeria ready to kick out Polio completely

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) into the country’s everyday immunization agenda, reports NaijaAgroNet.

In order to achieve the goal of being the next nation free from the polio virus, Nigeria now hit one of the four major plans to eradicate polio which is to replace oral polio vaccine (OPV) with the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)

Minister of Health, Dr. Alhassan Khaliru in a statement made available to NaijaAgroNet, said the efforts will provide Nigeria with the chance to completely eradicate the polio virus he said “These provide a quantum-leap opportunity for Nigeria in the polio eradication end game strategy,” said Dr.Khaliru.

NaijaAgroNet recalls that World Health Organization (WHO) commended Nigeria, pointeing out their position in the fight against the polio virus with records, saying “Nigeria remains one of the three countries with endemic polio transmission.”

FG Empowers Bauchi farmers on Wheat initiative

Over 400 registered farmers in Bauchi State have received support from the Federal Government of the state to boost their agricultural strength, in its Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS), NaijaAgroNet.

Directorin the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, told NaijaAgroNet that the farmers, instead of going to the market to obtain a bag of fertilizer at the rate of N16,600, the government has offered it to them at the rate of N6,150 taking off them the remaining N11,350.

Alhaji Mohammed also said that each of the farmers received bags of fertilizer and enhanced seeds to increase their production.  Stressing this was done in order to bring to life the government hard work to increase the rate of wheat production in the country.

"The Federal Government came out with the wheat value chain initiative to assist farmers with inputs and create market for their produce. This is with a view to boosting productivity and enhancing economic status thereby reducing dependency on importation.” Alhaji Mohammed said.

Ghana smallholder farmers to benefit from Grameen partnership

The smallholder farmers in the five regions of Ghana would benefit from the newly launched Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiative by the Grameen Foundation, in collaboration with Farm Radio International and Digital Green, reports NaijaAgroNet.

The project, NaijaAgroNet gathered was established to help disseminate information to farmers in the region and also to render the necessary support they may need to add volume to their productivity and improve nutritional value in their communities which is a way of reducing the causes of food insecurity.

Also, NaijaAgroNet reports that the project involve mobile apps, radio, video, text messaging and voice messages, that will serve as information circulating agent to the farmers, in addition to enabling them have access to every information they need.

Hillary Miller-Wise, who oversees the Grameen Foundation’s portfolio across sub-Saharan Africa, said, “We are focused on increasing food security for smallholder farmers in Ghana using a number of different channels to reach farmers with vital information that they need in order to drive productivity and ultimately increase income.”
