Oyo State Governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, launched a tree planting campaign to optimise environmental quality and human health for the current and future generations.

The governor, while launching the campaign at the frontage of the Head of Service building, Secretariat, Ibadan, said that if planting of trees is well-promoted, it will have an impact on the kind of environment that will be handed over to the upcoming generation.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has said the State government would utilize the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s Rice Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) to increase its annual rice production from 34,700 to 1.5 million metric tonnes.

The CBN-ABP, according to the Governor would generate no fewer than 12,000 jobs for rice farmers, who, would in turn, create additional 50,000 jobs in full production across the rice value chain within a year.

Five of every six farms in the world consist of less than two hectares, operate only around 12 percent of all agricultural land, and produce roughly 35 percent of the world's food, according to a study published in world development.
