Expert laments unexplored landmass in Nigeria

Expert has said that Nigeria has a land area of 98.3million hectare; 74 million hectare is good for farming; but less than half is being explored.

An agriculturist, in a recent paper ‘Nigeria’s Agriculture and Food Security Challenges’ said that the population involved in farming is between 60 and 70 per cent.

Also, the expert said agriculture’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is about 41.5 per cent, while the output of food per capita is among the least in Sub Sahara Africa (SSA).

This is in addition to crops, livestock and fish having potentials for providing food and nutrition in the region. Read more
