African countries agree to co-operate on weather prediction

African countries in the horn region of the continent has agreed to come together and share ideas that will help scientists and researchers in climate change factor, such as flood and drought, reports NaijaAgroNet.

This was part of communique from the Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook forum in Nairobi, where they concluded that regional approach is the best way to make stronger weather predictions.

Kenya’s Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Richard Lesiyampe advised participants to partner with the regional metrological services to always adapt modern technologies in order to enhance weather predictions as effective weather predictions will help tackle climate change.

"Effective weather prediction will enhance our capacity to plan for the future because the Horn of Africa region has suffered due to inability to predict extreme weather,” said Lesiyamp.

Executive Secretary,Intergovernmental Authority on Drought (IGAD) MahboubMaalim, also said at the forum that donors have pledged new financial promises to improve metrological infrastructure in the Horn of Africa.

40 air traffic controllers honoured

Following the recent examination of the air traffic controllers, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has been honored with optimistic ranking of 40 air traffic controllers.

Disclosing this in Abuja,the Managing Director, NAMA, Engineer Ibrahim Abdulsalam, gave this commendation to the agency staff for their performance.

He also expressed self-assurance saying that the ranking will not only encourage the personnel but it is going to boost the workforce of the agency, mostly in Area Rader Control Service.

“The critical manpower capacity of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, (NAMA) was given a boost last week with the rating of 40 Air Traffic Controllers by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA),” he said.

SMEDAN commences update of MSMEs data

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has commenced plans to update its data on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) reports NaijaAgroNet.

The Director General Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, AlhajiBatureMasari, said this in an interview in Abuja that the agency has kicked off to update the MSMD on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises 2010 data.

NaijaAgroNet recalls that the 2010 report showed that about 17 million Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have a collective record of 32 million employers in Nigeria.

The Director-General who said that the significant contribution of the SMEs to the Nigeria economy in 2010 partly called for the survey so, now he is calling on stakeholders join hands and  together to create a better atmosphere t help bring out the best of the SMEs to boost the Nigeria economy.

“The MSMEs space is large and demands the unflinching commitment of stakeholders and practitioners,” he said.
